Get Paid to Become a Station Director!

A Podango Station is a collection of great podcasts focused on a specific niche market. These stations deliver a consistent stream of episodes (programming) from podcasters who are typically leaders in their industry providing multiple views on the same topics. Station Directors assemble, manage, coordinate, and (in some cases) train these podcasters to serve the target market.

What Station Directors need, first and foremost, is passion. If you're only in this for the money you can make, you probably don't have what our listeners need. (No offense.) But if you love your area of interest, and you can't imagine ever being bored by it, and you could talk about it for hours at cocktail parties, wedding receptions, and court hearings, then... THEN... you are just what we're looking for.

Our Station Directors do make money, of course. Sponsors love niche focused stations and Podango is bringing on more sponsors every day. Given your knowledge of the target industry, you can help identify just the right sponsors for your station. By including paid sponsorships in a station's programming, Station Directors can start earning money by doing what they love.

What's my cut of the ad revenue?

You earn 10% of all the revenue generated by all the podcasts in your station (plus 50% of all revenue generated by your own podcast, if you have one) once your station exceeds 10,000 downloads each month. (Podcasters always earn 50% of the revenue generated from their shows.)

Okay -- so how do I start getting that kind of traffic?

As you recruit great podcasters with existing listeners, have them redirect their feeds to your station feed. It's that easy. They make money, you make money.

So how much money are we talking here?

Okay, Mr. Brass-Tacks, let's talk about that. Let's say you get 100,000 downloads each week from the bevy of podcasters you assemble. Let's say a sponsor is willing to pay $50 per thousand downloads to sponsor these shows, for a total of $10,000 a week -- a preroll and a postroll ad on each episode.

Now, podcasters get a minimum of 50% of the revenue gained from their podcasts, though you can offer them more if you like. Then you get, say, 10% from the total. 10% of $10,000 is $1000.

Presumably you also have a podcast on your station -- so this is $1,000 a week you're getting in addition to your cut as a podcaster.

$1,000 a week! You're a millionaire!

Okay, maybe not. But how many listeners can you accrue? How much will advertisers be willing to pay to be heard on your station? It all depends on what advertisers will pay, which in turn depends on the demographic of your audience, and the focus of your station.

How much work is it?

Ah, the golden question. We've put an enormous amount of effort into simplifying the production process. We have made it very simple to put together the pieces of your show, from your bumper music to your advertisements to your podcasts themselves. (And we're always looking to improve! We want to make your process as easy as possible, so we hope you'll give us feedback on the site itself.)

You, then, are spending your time looking for and recruiting great podcasts, and growing your station's audience and participating in the forums, and seeking more specific, more targeted sponsors for your show. The answer, then, is as much work as you are willing to commit to making your station great.

What kind of content do you allow?

No racist, bigoted, or hateful shows. Nothing pornographic or sexually explicit. Nothing illegal or that suggests illegal acts. And nothing that disses on Mark Twain -- man, we love that Samuel Clemens.

If you have anything explicit that doesn't fall into these categories, like language you can't have on television, then you can have your station marked as "explicit".
